What Instrument do I pick?

You have the exciting opportunity to choose and play an instrument that inspires you! At Porter Ridge Middle, our Beginning Band program offers 4 instruments to get you started, including:

• Flute

• Clarinet

• Trumpet

• Trombone

These instruments provide an excellent foundation for learning the fundamentals of music. The skills students develop with these instruments will be essential throughout their entire time in our program. As students progress, they have the chance to switch to other specialized instruments, such as:

• Percussion (start on clarinet, trumpet or trombone)

• Saxophone alto, tenor & bari (all start on clarinet only)

• Bass Clarinet (start on clarinet only)

• Bassoon (start on clarinet only)

• Oboe (start on clarinet or flute)

• Euphonium (start on trombone or trumpet - trombone is the better choice)

• Tuba (start on trombone or trumpet - trombone is the better choice)

Typically, this transition starts in November and goes into effect after winter break and may involve an audition process.
